Trainer Spotlight: Lana Titus

Who wins a bodybuilding competition 6 months after giving birth to her daughter? Super Mom Lana Titus! She shares her inspirational story and much more in this week’s trainer spotlight…

Where are you from?

Ohio! I went to college in Hawaii with my high school sweetheart and husband Zac. Then we moved to my parent’s ranch in Montana. We were running a bread and breakfast, which was fun but it wasn’t our passion. So we decided to rent an apartment in LA and give it a shot! That was 10 years ago.

What inspired you to get into the world of fitness?

I got into fitness after the birth of my first daughter. I gained 40 pounds when I was pregnant with her and by the time she was 6 months old I could tell that I was going to get comfortable in my mommy role, you know just taking care of my daughter. My husband was doing bodybuilding competitions at the time, so I set a goal to do a competition myself. I trained for 6 weeks, working out twice a day and sticking to a very strict diet. That’s when I started bringing my daughter to the gym and realized I could be her role model. 6 weeks later I go on stage and won! I was in the best shape of my life, it felt so good.

After the competition, our local newspaper ran a story about my husband Zac and I winning fitness competitions, we were living in Montana at the time. Shortly after it ran, I got a call from a woman whose daughter was battling cancer. She had gained some weight and her mom asked if I could help her. I still remember where I was standing the moment she called. Something switched. All of the things I had been doing for myself to help change my body I could do for others. So I got certified and she was my first client!

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

Winning America's Fittest Couple with my husband Zac. After I won my first competition I was addicted. I am a very competitive person and competitions gave me something to work towards. We found out about this competition in Pasadena, CA called America's Fittest Couple, and it was so exciting because it was our first chance to get on stage together. We have always trained together, but never competed as a team. We ended up winning and got to appear in IRONMAN magazine with our daughter. It was a very exciting time.

I also was a fitness expert on TLC's Real Simple Life. I worked with Moms and designed programs to help them lose their baby weight. At first they didn’t believe that I was nursing a 7 month old, but after I told them my story we really connected.  One of the mothers I worked with had triplets! She had gone through a lot of fertility treatments and was really discouraged about her weight. It was so nice to be able to motivate and work with all of the Mothers.

what attracted you to Burn 60?

The Burn 60 billboard on Santa Monica boulevard that had people with their shirts off! My girls were going to school and I wanted to get back into teaching. What really made Burn stand out was the personalized attention. The trainers care so much about form and that people come back again. We treat everyone as family.

what can people expect when they come to your class?

They can expect a good time! Expect to be challenged in a fun and motivating way.
