In 2014, nearly 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer were diagnosed in the United States. Sadly, this number pales in comparison to the over 235,000 new cases of breast cancer. While both statistics are staggering, the fact remains that these numbers are only expected to increase in the coming months. According to breastcancer.org, it is estimated that close to 300,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year in the U.S. alone, while the odds of developing other women's cancers are also steadily on the rise.
The Lynne Cohen Foundation wants to change all that. Since 1998, the Lynne Cohen Foundation has been committed to battling ovarian and breast cancer through preventive care, education, and a close knit community of men and women with one goal in mind: Kickin' Cancer.
On September 20, 2015, Burn 60 Studios will be joining The Lynne Cohen Foundation for their 14th Annual Kickin' Cancer 5K! In addition to collecting donations for this family friendly run/walk, we will be hosting pre and post 5K workout classes during the event. There will be a kids corner complete with a bounce house, t-shirt coloring contest and fitness activities for the little ones, as well as a warm up led by Burn 60's very own, trainer Julie Diamond.
Julie lost her mother June to ovarian cancer 20 years ago and has been an advocate of the Lynne Cohen Foundation's efforts for many years. We are proud to stand beside her in this battle and hope that many more of you will be encouraged to join the fight.
